Trigger warning: rape exam //

I've gone through a forensic rape exam. I had over 2 promilles alcohol in my blood, it was 10 in the morning after a night of drinking and trauma. I had slept in the hospital on a cold couch for maybe 2 hrs while waiting for the gynaecologist. 1/?
I had a wonderful midwife who had brought me a blanket to keep me warm. The doctor woke me up, she was a stern but professional lady. She interviewed me of what had happened and led me into the exam room. I had to undress completely in a cold room with the midwife and doctor 2/?
and they went over my whole body looking for injuries, they took swab-tests from my breasts, hands, neck, under my fingernails, they took hairs from my head. They took photos of bruises they found on my body. Then they had me get on the table, 3/?
spread my legs and did the internal exam, taking swabs. I don't remember everything of this part because I was hysterical and tried to resist by not getting on the table first. The midwife held my hand and stroked my head while I got up on the table and let the exam happen 4/?
It was humiliating and physically painful and I was so anxious that I screamed. I was worried and embarrassed about not "being clean" down there, because I had not been allowed to wash myself for obvious reasons. The midwife and doctor ensured me that I was doing well 5/?
even though I was crying hysterically.
So to everyone prioritising the feelings of the examiner in situations like these: I say fuck you very much. You are so incredibly tone-deaf and you should stop and choose another hill to die on. 6/?
Traumatised women are not there to validate your gender feelings. We're just trying our best to deal with the trauma we've been through and we need empathy, like the wonderful midwife and doctor gave to me when I was in that situation. That's all. 7/7
