/ Many companies are commercializing #opensource, but what metrics really matter? TL;DR - it’s not GitHub Stars

/ To understand adoption, Issuesgrowth is the most important, signaling much deeper engagement than Stars . Growth stage companies have 5x as many Issuesas seed stage companies.
/ @jasoncwarner offered a fun analogy for understanding this: there are two inputs to a computer—a keyboard and a mouse . He values the keyboard (submitting an Issue) much more than the mouse (clicking to Star).
/ To understand contribution, Contributors growth is the most important—especially Serious Contributors (who have made >2 commits). Growth stage companies have 9x as many Issues as seed stage companies.
/ Here is a framework for #opensource founders to think about GitHub metrics . We’re continuing to iterate and would love any feedback!
