convictions are not justice. Calling for cops to be convicted as "justice for somebody" concedes to the logic that it is justice. So when Black people & poor people are on death row, and we fight for their freedom, the people opposing us say that they want their "justice" too.
at least be accurate. say that you want punishment, retribution, etc, but don't give legitimacy that the current system is capable of "justice." There is no moral arc in our criminal legal system, and certainly not one that bends towards anything just.
because now you are creating a dynamic where justice for Breonna Taylor means sending people to prison to die and justice for Brandon is saving his life when actually, actual justice requires the abolition of the conditions that killed them both
