It's already been another fantastic season for the Austrian clubs in Europe.

With 🇦🇹⚽️ on the rise, we've decided to chart the historical best European performances of every current Bundesliga club (plus a few select extras) in the UEFA era.

But first, a nod to the 5⃣ 🇦🇹 clubs who won the Mitropa Cup, a continental competition contested by clubs from central European countries.

1993/94

Known as SV Casino Salzburg back then, they reached the UEFA Cup final, where they were beaten 2-0 by Inter Milan 🇮🇹 on aggregate.

They beat Sporting 🇵🇹, Eintracht Frankfurt 🇩🇪 & Karlsruher SC 🇩🇪 en route to the final.
2016/17

A Red Bull Salzburg team containing current stars Patson Daka 🇿🇲 & Mergim Berisha 🇩🇪 won the UEFA Youth League against the odds, beating the likes of Man City 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, PSG 🇫🇷, Atlético 🇪🇸 & Barcelona 🇪🇸 before defeating Benfica 🇵🇹 2-1 in the final.
2017/18

An impressive run to the semi-finals of the Europa League courtesy of QF victory over Lazio 🇮🇹, in which they lost the 1⃣st leg 4-2 & won the 2⃣nd leg 4-1.

They ran Marseille 🇫🇷 close in the semi-finals too, losing to a 116th minute goal in extra-time of the 2⃣nd leg.
2019/20

Having failed to qualify many times, RBS eventually made their #UCL debut via the league route.

A side inspired by Erling Haaland came third in a memorable group with Liverpool 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, Napoli 🇮🇹 & Genk 🇧🇪

They were knocked out of the #UEL in the last 32 by Frankfurt 🇩🇪
2020/21

After putting the qualification curse to bed 🆚 Maccabi Tel Aviv 🇮🇱, Salzburg draw Bayern Munich 🇩🇪, Atlético Madrid 🇪🇸 & Lok Moscow 🇷🇺 in Group A.

Despite going into the final day with a chance of going through, they ultimately finish 3⃣rd and drop down into the #UEL .

1960/61

Rapid made the semi-finals of the old European Cup after beating Malmö 🇸🇪 in the quarter-finals.

But they are comfortably beaten by eventual winners Benfica 🇵🇹 in the final four. The second leg is abandoned with two minutes left due to a pitch invasion.
1983/84

Another excellent run in Europe's elite club competition sees Rapid beat Nantes 🇫🇷 & Bohemians 🇨🇿 before losing to Scottish side Dundee United 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 on away goals in the quarter-finals.
1984/85

The Green & Whites become the second Austrian club to reach a European final when they get to the Cup Winners' Cup showpiece in Rotterdam, but they are beaten 3-1 by Everton 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
1995/96

Another Cup Winners' Cup final for Austria's record champions, who are narrowly beaten 1-0 by PSG 🇫🇷 in Brussels.

Carsten Jancker finishes the competition as 3⃣rd top scorer with 6⃣ goals.
1996/97

The first of two Champions League group stage participations.

There are two 1-1 draws at home (with Fenerbahce 🇹🇷 & Juventus 🇮🇹), but Rapid lose their other four games - including two 2-0 losses to Man Utd 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 - and finish bottom of Group C.
2005/06

Rapid return to the Champions League groups for the second and most recent time.

But they lose all six games in another tough group (Bayern Munich 🇩🇪, Juventus 🇮🇹 & Club Brugge 🇧🇪) and end up bottom of Group A.

2019/20

The tiny village club from Carinthia kick off their debut European campaign with a thumping 4-0 win at Gladbach 🇩🇪 and then draw twice with Roma 🇮🇹

But they lose twice to Istanbul Basaksehir 🇹🇷 and finish bottom of Group J with five points.
