The grand jury investigation appears to be focused on possible bank and insurance fraud as @realDonaldTrump sought loans and other services.

Because this is not a federal investigation, Trump is powerless to stop it or to grant pardons to protect himself or his family.

One thing that’s notable here is that there is not really a question of whether Trump submitted financial documents to @DeutscheBank that included very, um, generous valuations of certain assets.

The dispute is more likely to be about whether that constituted fraud.
