5 years ago world leaders agreed a deal to halt the climate crisis but we're seeing more extreme weather, people dying and ecosystems collapsing. In 2021 the UK will host the next big climate conference. @BorisJohnson has to lead. Here's how #ClimateAction #ActOnClimate
As hosts of #COP26, and at the #ClimateAmbitionSummit tomorrow, the UK can set an example to the rest of the world and encourage other countries to roll out green solutions. Pledges are important but don’t get the world on a safer path without proper, well-funded #ClimateAction
Here are just a few examples of how the UK needs to show leadership: Say bye bye to fossil fuels. It’s time to end this dirty practice and support workers to transition to secure green jobs. The UK can build global momentum following Denmark’s decision to end fossil production
Invest in a world-leading public transport system rather than new roads. Road building has low job creation potential, whereas investment in public transport, walking and cycling will help to ‘level up’ communities across the UK.
More financial support for countries on the frontline of the climate crisis. Climate change is costly, deadly and hits hardest those who are least responsible for causing it. Instead of cutting aid, the UK should lead in increasing support.
More protection for our forests, oceans and nature. As a start, that means stopping food giants destroying forests and stopping destructive fishing depleting our seas. Ambitious legal targets are also needed to restore nature.
All of this is possible. But @BorisJohnson needs to step up quickly to have a real impact. New analysis from @TheCCoalition shows that in 10 of the top priority areas for UK climate leadership over the next year, none of them are fully on track. https://www.theclimatecoalition.org/scorecard
With Donald Trump out of the White House and stronger climate action from China, South Korea and Japan, we now have a fighting chance to bring the world back together in a moonshot effort to cut planet-warming emissions
Next year's Glasgow @COP26 could be the catalyst for the breakthrough we need. As host, @10DowningStreet must lead by example and show the world that by stopping the climate crisis, we can restart our economy and create jobs and industries of the future that can benefit everyone.
