We started #EU2020DE with Tainted love report to show how close some German decision-makers are to corporate interests.

6 months on, how have things panned out?

Read below on #CAP, #pesticides, #hydrogen, #mercosur, #tax, #ruleoflaw, #transparency...

#EUCouncil #CAP reform position led by @EU2020DE Minister Klöckner is #major fail, keeping subsidies flowing to polluting agri-biz.

Klöckner gave big farm lobby Copa-Cogeca usual exclusive mtgs just b4 key Council.

Will @TimmermansEU #WithdrawThisCAP? https://euobserver.com/opinion/149807
No progress by @EU2020DE on #pesticides.

While Health Comr criticised member states for not implementing #EU rules on less pesticide use, @JuliaKloeckner did not acknowledge this.

Also blocked discussion on #Farm2Fork goal to cut use 50% by 2030

Analysis by @Green_Europe shows that #EU2020DE has made progress on #biodiversity.

But it’s a failure not to have agreed strong #climate targets in #EUCouncil. Science says #EU’s 2030 target should be minimum 65%.

https://meta.eeb.org/2020/10/29/german-eu-presidency-scores-well-on-biodiversity-and-badly-on-cap-reform-midterm-review-show/
Industry pressure has been growing on #EUCouncil to accept #hydrogenhype & deliver #gas friendly policy & infrastructure, with obliging @EU2020DE making sure regulatory & financial help will benefit #hydrogen made from #fossil gas.

https://corporateeurope.org/en/hydrogen-hype
On trade @EU2020DE is pushing for swift ratification of the #EU #Mercosur agreement - even though it will worsen the #ClimateCrisis & increase #HumanRights violations. Once again, the German government caters to the interests of #BayerMonsanto, Daimler & other large corporations
On #ePrivacy #EU2020DE gave up on trying to reach agreement.

The German Govt’s proposal was not ideal, but it's worrying to see how #EUCouncil is getting more hardline in its anti-privacy approach. This is a victory for corporate lobbies.

On #TaxJustice issues, #EU2020DE has been a major disappointment. Next to no progress made on #pCBCR #TaxTransparency, on #FTT Robin Hood tax, or on other corporate/digital taxes, despite huge pressure from MEPs & citizens

Good to see that @EU2020DE has not taken corporate sponsorship for its Presidency, breaking the chain on this dodgy practice.

But #EUCouncil has yet to agree a proper position on this dodgy practice. We will be watching #EU2020PT closely on this
#EU2020DE has secured a deal on #lobbytransparency.

But outcome is weak and it has not managed to reverse lack of openness by member states on lobbyists' mtgs on #EU issues. Also no progress made to open up #EUCouncil working party discussions.
https://bit.ly/3qMj1rn
So #EU2020DE has been a real mixed bag with a lack of progress on some vital issues, and even some backward steps on others.

Watch this space next week for more on civil society expectations for #EU2020PT.
