(1)The real danger of "Blue Labour" approaches is they are a way to avoid offering material improvement to the supposed "Traditional Working Class" targets : the "We respect your culture" is a substitute for "We will get you better wages, investment, housing"
(2)The reactionary "cultural" argument that catches is "why do you care more about black people/immigrants/gays more than me" - it's blaming "liberal" policies for economic distress : The answer is to "care" about wages, town high streets etc and offer material improvement
(3)Politicians who lean into the "cultural" argument are trying to avoid - or belive they can't improve - the economic situation. This is real ABC of socialism stuff .
(4) So eg Mining was an all male industry, mostly based in provincial towns - so could have been a bastion of "cultural conservatism" : But when Miners thought they could (and for a time did) win better conditions via their Union, they backed pretty 'liberal' policies.
