How is it still a story that a “core belief” of Sinn Féin is that the Troubles were a continuation of the War of Independence. That doesn't have to mean people agree with everything that happened, or that the party hasn't evolved but the constant weaponsing of it is pure politics
& it's at the core of every attack & criticism of sinn féin. The suggestion they'll turn to violence at the drop of a hat. Its insideous. Call out the issues, focus on policies & hold people to account when behaviour isn't up to standard but the focus on the Troubles has to stop
There are real people with lived experience of living through a war. Decades of conflict. & whether they support SF or not, we didn't live through it & using it as a political weapon to damage a political rival with no thought of the people that lived through it Is reprehensible
The journalism around this is just infuriating. I've absolutely no problem with stories on TDs views. I want to know if people have views I think are bonkers. But if you're going all in on tweets & ignoring massive stories of corruption & abuses of power that is not journalism
