After 136 episodes and 286 hours of conversation, here are 10 things I’ve learned...
1. Five years ago I thought I knew a lot about teaching. Now I realise how clueless I was and how much I still have to learn
2. The episodes I learn the most from are when I speak to an expert with experiences different to mine. Early years with @helenjwc, mixed attainment with @HelenHindle1 and teaching English with @HuntingEnglish are particular favourites.
3. Where a tweet often lacks nuance, a 2 hour conversation does not. I know of know better way to really understand someone’s beliefs and rationale than to give them the time and freedom to tell you.
4. Despite many different views, every single guest I’ve interviewed has had one over-riding aim: to help children love and understand their subject to ultimately improve their lives
5. I say “flipping heck” a lot
6. People often need help to get a project off the ground. For my podcast, that help came from @dylanwiliam. Since Dylan came on the show 4 years ago, no-one has turned down an invite
7. I’ve discovered that people listen to the show in their cars, whilst washing the dishes, running marathons, as the soundtrack to BBQs, and to help newborns to sleep. I’m yet to hear of any babies conceived with the show on in the background, but who knows...
8. My favourite question to ask guests is “what is your favourite failure, and what did you learn from the experience?”
9. @mathsjem has appeared on the show more than I have
10. 3 hours flies by when you are talking to your heroes
Thank you so much to all my lovely guests who have taught me so much, and to everyone who has listened and learned something too over the years.
And thank you to Kate for not complaining when I’m in my office for hours on end, recording and producing.

If you want to support the podcast, the best thing you can do is to leave a review wherever you get your podcasts from. Ideally a positive one...
I'm going to take a break from the show for a bit as my physical and mental health are still not quite right.
But I’ll be back!
But I’ll be back!
So for now, take care, thanks for listening, and I will see you on the other side...
