When I stood for election 20 yrs or more ago,Sinn Féin& Fine Gael took down my Labour posters.Sinn Féin even ordered me out of an estate. But I voted Sinn Féin in the last election & am strongly thinking of joining them,if they will have me.The relentless bashing of Sinn Féin(1)
(2) By the Irish Times RTE & other rag newspapers, horrify me for by their lack of respect for democracy&SF voters. The undignified &untrue tweets of An Tánaiste disgust me.The utter contempt & rudeness of An Taoiseach to Marylou Mc Donald in An Dáil is personal& unparliamentary
(3)The utter denial of Dail Eireann of any wrongdoing by the British& their representatives in the 6 Counties over the past 100 yrs deeply saddens me. My GAA father only escaped"execution" by masked gunmen in 1970s when stopped on a country road as he had taught one of them
(4)It was on the road between Keady&Clontibret when my father was President of theUlster Council. Many men were killed simply because they were members ofGAA by British forces in the North. There was an opportunity when commemorating Bloddy Sunday in Croke Park to acknowledge this
(5)But this was not done. The 1930s in Ireland was a very bloddy time,if anyone cares to read the history after the armed struggle of the war of independence& the civil war. With the Good Friday Agreement Sinn Féin gave up its military struggle for Irish independence for the North
(6)Sinn Féin have esposed a social democratic path which is very exciting and popular with the people. As in1930s,it will take time to convince all its members to give up military struggle& military approach to admin.I have been very impatient with this& called for resignations
(7)I was wrong. All this hatred of Sinn Féin has nothing got to do with the past but is motivated by a terror of Ireland becoming a Social Democratic country. We have never had a greater Conservative Gov in FF/FG,which does not care about homeless on the streets or unpaid nurses
(8)It does not care if our children go hungry to school. It does not care that the average person can no longer afford a house. They allow vulture funds to control our rental sector, where people are asked for vast rent to live in a press. That they use the North& its struggles
(9)For democracy as a whipping boy,to defeat Sinn Féin,reflects the utter ruthlessness of capitalism. The death of a GAA footballer by British forces in 1970 is no different from killing them in 1920.I would advise Sinn Féin not to react to Varadkers/McDowells etc, provacation but
(10)Carry on building a party for the people which they are struggling successfully to do.
