I hope I just reviewed my last PhD app for this cycle, so I would like to share some suggestions for future applicants:
1. Ask for a STRONG letter of support, & offer to draft it. (I had a referee submit the same 6-sentence letter for 2 separate students. He was a bad choice)

2. Don’t regurgitate your CV in your personal statement. Tell me a good story and what you’re #passionate about.
3. If you don’t have a master’s degree or substantial work experience, reconsider if you are truly ready for the rigor of a PhD...then convince me.

4. Your good grades only make you average at this level. You need to have some work/intern/training/volunteer experience to #LevelUp
5. If you list a potential mentor by name in your statement, maybe contact them to see if you mesh well.

6. Have somebody PROOFREAD your stuff!!!! This isn’t Twitter, so you can submit revisions up to the due date.
