1/ The purpose of our little splash into social media and our podcast-in-progress is to bring to light 3 things: the absurdity of our situation in a time of Covid, trying to boost the accounts of our restaurant brethren, and how we (the workers) can change the industry.
2/ We need to be heard and seen. Congress needs to see it. Never has it been more apparent that workers are fodder for capitalism. Covid took the mask off. Let’s do better than this NOW. What can we do to make this industry less trepidatious and unstable?
3/ We are planting seeds.But it is so intimidating to be putting thoughts out there that may sound to some treasonous to the industry. Like it’s okay for us to be funny haha about how ridiculous this experience has been, but get touchy when you talk about the dark side.
4/ Let’s not wait on the sidelines for someone, anyone to advocate for better conditions for everyone in the industry, but why the hell hasn’t it been any of us. why haven’t we been willing to look past our own insular experience until it came to this, when everyone is drowning
5/ and we all need a lifeboat...but there isn’t one. It’s treasonous only in so far as it undermines the efforts of owners, mangers, shareholder even, but what they’re hopefully beginning to realize is they are in the exact same boat as us, and without their staff, they fail.
6/ Also, without support from on high, they fail. We are witnessing absurdity on steroids (and for an industry that seems to attract it, that’s saying something). We are tired. And broke. Discuss. Goodnight all ❤️
