I love the idea that Chewbacca is just really bad at not getting captured.
He's captured by Trandoshans the first time we meet him on the timeline during the Clone Wars.
Then, when we meet him after the war, the Empire has him in Solo.
Then he's captured in Rise of Skywalker. Is there a war he DIDN'T get captured during?
Then, whenever he's not being actually captured, they make him pretend to be.
He gets captured in Empire, too.
Seriously, Revenge of the Sith seems to be about his only on-screen appearance where he's not captured or pretending to be captured.
He gets captured or pretends to be THREE times in Jedi. Jabba's palace, by the Ewoks, AND on Endor before the Ewoks show up.

He definitely gets captured briefly in The Force Awakens. I think he's captured by porgs off-camera in The Last Jedi.
It's just funny. Like, how was he captured by the Trandoshans? Why did the Empire have him locked up on Mimban?

Even Chuck Wendig's books get him captured and have Han going all out to rescue him.

It's just his thing.
He's the best at what he does and what he does is getting captured.
