the death penalty in the united states and what to do about it: a thread
tw// mentions of death, murder, execution and violence
the death penalty is legal in 28 states. it can also be enforced by the u.s government and the military
the death penalty is unconstitutional and inhuman. it is legal murder. the courts should not be able to take away something as valuable as a life.
it is also discriminatory. if you are low income, a person of color or have mental health issues. if you can’t pay legal fees or your black (especially if the victim is white) you are more likely to get a death sentence
THESE ARE NOT THE PEOPLE CAUSING THE MOST CRIMES. BUT THEY ARE THE ONES BEING PUNISHED THE MOST SERIOUSLY
the death penalty has also been proven to not work. states where the death penalty is legal do not have lower crime rates. some are even higher.
also the death penalty is PERMEATE. although no one deserves the death penalty to many people have been falsely convicted and put death. if a case finds more evidence later THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE.
now here are things you can do to help
