Someone tweeted earlier why Steve McQueen's Small Axe series the main/current talking point of film twitter...

Disney. Investor. Day.

I look upon everyone giddy on my feed with mixed feelings.
The reaction to all of this stuff has cemented that this is what people want and is seemingly the only thing they want. It nearly the only thing folk appear to really get excited for. Announcements of franchise stuff.
This in conjunction with the WB debacle showed a lot devotion to the brand gods. Fair enough. It's what folk want.

But I think it's why so much of the cultural conversation comes across as flat. A genuine (maybe unconscious) wish for placid often unchallenging "content".
*the cultural content on here.
Blocked off the thread. It's 3am. I'm tired. Clearly not sleeping due to other reasons on my feed. No need for the "let people like what they like" guys to pop up. You've won. This stuff dominates. I don't hate it. But it feels like it comes at the expense of stuff I dig.
Just saw a "but look at the diversity on display" tweet. Coupled with "let people enjoy things!"

Yep some of that will be good. But will we be surprised when alot of it will be like like *that moment* in Endgame?
Do I want more diversity? Yes.

Does it have to be shoehorned into this prepackaged, sometimes culturally flat "content"? Unfortunately, so it seems.
I also get annoyed when the diversity card is flung out in certain ways.

"It's just white guys who love the 70's"

I'm a black guy who loves quite a varied range of movies. I don't necessarily want the feeling that diverse talent will be swallowed up by Galaxy Conflict films.
