Many have asked if they would/should receive a vaccine if they have already had #Covid19. On first glance, the answer might appear to be an obvious no. But it might not be so straightforward. A few point to consider...1/
None of the major vaccine trials have included participants with suspected/confirmed Covid19. This would have rendered evaluation of antibody responses in such people not meaningful & potentially unrelated to vaccine administration. 2/
However, there have been serologic studies done on those who have been confirmed positive indicating robust rates of antibody responses maintained as late as 7 months post infection. https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/10/studies-show-long-term-covid-19-immune-response 3/
There are cases of #Covid19 RE-infection that have been documented but they are still very rare and most of these reinfections led to milder disease outcomes in those affected. Native immunity was still better more often than not. 4/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2020/11/16/though-rare-the-number-of-reinfections-with-covid-19-is-growing/?sh=5d7c1110c8ac
At the end of the day, the question becomes one of greatest priority vs supply/logistical challenges. Those who have confirmed prior infection will likely be low on the list of target recipients considering they have at least partial immunity 5/
But severe immune deficiency, other exceptional circumstances might warrant consideration for vaccination regardless. Perhaps antibody testing, individual medical assessment is best in these cases to make the most informed decision. 6/
This really adds nothing to the thread. I just really love Bart Simpson and his prank calls #GeniusBadass 7/ End
