this is one of my favourite songs and one of my favourite collections. both are reflections on childhood. seven, to me, explores the way your emotions come naturally to you as a child, without the complications of societal expectations and the policing of the imagination and...

... natural state of being- it is a reflection on the loss of that. about her fall 2019 collection, guo pei stated: “when i was a child, i often thought about death… where do we go? i think a lot of people think about this...

... guo pei also described the collection as “an alternate universe” - seven also feels like it comes from a different place.

i think so much of this song is about luxury, grandeur, heirlooms and legacy… and continuity, in the way taylor talks about rebekah and then herself. In a way, the folklore of rebekah is used to define the future (of taylor, in the same house). it reminds me of cjr fall 2020...

...of the collection, designer CJR said: “these clothes are expensive, & they should look expensive... i’m trying to make clothes that are heirlooms that even i can’t afford, but maybe when i’m 40 or 50 ill be able to. it’s not about the now, but it’s very much about the future."

for me, this song feels like a catharsis of emotions - extreme feelings that have been bottled up for a long time coming. it is equally about love and betrayal, trust and hurt. it reminds me of the description given to guo pei’s ‘1001 nights’ collection...

it reads: “this collection theme was women’s emotion… through haute couture language, she told stories about lies & truth, betrayal & trust and the reversed process of death & rebirth. after you reach the end of the road, a new one comes to you...

... when you try flying down the cliff and find yourself on top of a cloud. extreme feelings that need to be dealt with courage and persistence, just like the spirit of haute couture.”

peace is about not being able to give someone peace, but it is sung over a peaceful instrumental (to create an ironic juxtaposition). it reminds me of this chalayan look that has a gorgeous ‘peaceful’ pattern that is reminiscent of nature, but the structure of the dress...

... is sharp & somewhat violent. in peace, taylor says “"id give you my sunshine, give you my best / but the rain is always gonna come if you're standing with me.” about the collection, chalayan explained “it's about the speed in our lives and how it can only result in a crash.”
