The Republican Party have, in at least one important sense, become far left.
No country's sociopolitical order exists by magic, but are sustained by certain norms.
More specifically, things such as Congressional acts and Supreme Court judgments are just pieces of paper.

It is only because they are deemed valid under the prevailing rule of recognition that they have the force of law.
Accordingly, if this rule of recognition is fatally undermined, then they will be merely pieces of paper – and the American sociopolitical order will be no more.

Nothing could be more unconservative than seeking to overturn the sociopolitical order.
But large sections of the GOP are now trying to push the rule of recognition to breaking point, and other large sections are happily tolerating this.

The GOP rightfully pointed out that if the Democrats were to pack the Supreme Court, this would threaten the country's rule of recognition by undermining faith in the validity of the court's judgments.
What, then, of doing everything they can to undermine faith in the validity of elections, state governments, and the federal courts below the Supreme Court?
Upholding the rule of recognition is the difference between the rule of law and state collapse, between liberty and arbitrary rule, between America and something fundamentally new.
If conservatism is about anything, it is about supporting the former over the latter, and recognising the importance of norms and the rest of implicit emergent order beyond pieces of paper issued by government or enforced at the end of a bayonet.
The GOP isn't conservative.

Tbh, I have no idea why any rule of recognition prevails in any society, at any time and place in human history.
Consequently, I am in no way able to say how resilient the US' will be in the wake of this sustained attempt to push it to breaking point.
Let's hope it's resilient.
