If you’ve read “The End of Storytelling” and @TenderClaws @samanthaKgorman’s “The Under Presents - Tempest” immersive narrative script, you’ll recognize how it uses Storyplexing components to take the narrative beyond traditional Storytelling... 1/
A storyplex is a dynamic, interwoven network of story, technology, and humanity, which we use to create interactive, immersive narratives. Notice at the top of the script, these three elements are outlined as “layers” although using different words… 2/
Layer 1 - “Materials” are the STORY components, which act as narrative breadcrumbs that create a story journey while remaining flexible based on the other two components: 3/
Layer 2 - “Mechanics” section takes notes of the affordances of the TECHNOLOGY: interactivity levels and world cues and digital props. 4/
Layer 3 - “The Player” refers to the HUMAN PSYCHOLOGICAL considerations for how the guest will behave. 5/
While these are described as layered skill sets (presumably for the actor), considering these components equally when designing the narrative experience helps balance their dynamism, as they are interdependent. 6/
Our traditional tools for writing reinforce linear construction. I love how the script uses color to layer and prioritize, calling out where moments are less linear and allowing for that space. 7/
There are no “right answers” for how to build/write/compose/format your Storyplex. Keep exploring, keep sharing.
