so the opening in which leia's shuttle is boarded and the stormtroopers execute a dynamic entry? that is an incredible dangerous thing. they have to blow a hole in the wall and move into a narrow corridor, exposed with rebels training guns on them
what happens? they slaughter the rebels with superhuman accuracy.
they take down a whopping fifteen rebels. the rebels only hit three stormtroopers. despite the stormtroopers being absurdly exposed. it's incredible.
almost everything else you see is relative to elite combatants (enormously powerful force-users, rebel commandos, etc)
contrary to stereotypes about imperials being disposable, vader immediately executes a commander whose failed maneuver now necessitates a costly ground assault. this is why his men will die for him
he cares about their lives. he will not hesitate to expend them if necessary to achieve a mission but he does not treat them as cannon fodder.
there are a lot of other inefficient aspects of the Empire but they're mostly not at the tactical level per se
e.g things like their absurdly dysfunctional military-industrial complex and arrogant high command
