I know the people who lead this organization and they are true Zionists and care deeply for Israel. They also find a home in the Democratic party and started this organization in order to ensure that the Democratic Party they believe in remains pro-Israel.
While critics of the Democratic party tend to focus on the loud anti-Israel voices from the likes of Tlaib, Omar, and McCollum, the truth is DMFI supported Pro-Israel Democratic candidates against progressive anti-Israel cases and won all their contests except for one.
The organization is an asset to the Pro-Israel community. It's all too easy to just criticize the Democratic party, to work from within it to strengthen the US-Israel relationship while fighting Israel's enemies takes effort, resources and dedication.
I've spoken to leaders of the organization to hear their reasoning for supporting Senate candidate Rev. Warnock. In multiple sermons, participating on anti-Israel trips and letters he's signed in the past, Warnock has shown himself to be a critic of Israel of the worst kind.
He's falsely maligned the IDF, disparaged Israel's policies and held Israel to a double standard. Yet, DMFI has endorsed Warnock for the Senate.
The leaders of DFMI did what Israel advocates are supposed to do when facing a candidate who opposes Israel - they educated him.
They reached out and had conversations with him. They taught & he listened.
It is all too easy to simply write off our critics' repentance. DMFI has chosen to believe that Warnock's change of heart instead of attributing it to his need for the community's support.
I trust the leadership of DMFI. I am not endorsing Warnock - not at all. His views on Israel, while they might not be overly critical, are mistaken and will be dangerous to Israel's safety.
My only point in this post it to highlight DMFI's good work and their laudable accomplishment in educating Rev. Warnock about the truth of Israel. Their efforts are what Israel advocacy is all about.
