When we turn from Plato to Aristotle, I warn my students: This is likely to bore you. That's ok! I usually find Aristotle boring! Don't think "because this bores me, I guess I'm not an *Aristotle person* "--instead feel free to ignore whether you're entertained by something! 1/3
Yes I know there are people who find Aristotle thrilling to read--I am not one of them, but they do exist. Awesome for them! But this is not most people, and Aristotle is very much *worth reading* even for those of us who have to force ourselves through it. 2/3
These reflections inspired by convos today w @zenahitz --trying to think to myself, "what do I do in the classroom that could count as protreptic"--and I think just "allowing that people might be bored, and telling them they have to do the reading anyway" is a big one. 3/3
