This is a great listen from two inspiring @Mailchimp leaders. I’ve used skip levels for years to get a more thorough understanding of team dynamics (helpful for internal comms), and gain exposure to up and coming leaders, who in turn get good exposure to leadership. https://twitter.com/lvlupeng/status/1336607857513537536
My favorite question is, “I’m about to send a “state of the company” email to employees with business updates and insights. What do you think people need to hear right now? If you were the CEO, what would you write?”
Sometimes I ask more directly: “Hey, change is a constant, and with change, there’s always some level of fear, uncertainty, doubt somewhere in the company. Even if it’s not on your team, what FUD are you sensing? What do those folks need to hear right now?”
Another good question to ask in skip levels: “Who’s doing something awesome and not getting noticed? Who can I send a little Slack message or email to?“.
