Chapel Hill has 300 miles of surface streets. I am entitled to drive on EVERY single mile of them. Limiting access to streets in the ill informed view of 'cut through traffic' weakens the road network for all users. It is the real reason why traffic in town has peak issues .
A resident is insisting a near by project be designed SPECIFICALLY to prevent people accessing it using the street they live on. That is now how cities work. If they want to close down the street, they can buy it from the town and maintain it themselves
A simple, quarter mile stretch of street can cost $500k , a cool half million. Is it equitable to spend that kind of money for a half a dozen houses, and not allow anyone else to use the street?
