Jodi showed us the mindset of many. that being victim of injustice is not enough for support. you have to be a "perfect victim." many of us have the same "deserving vs undeserving" mindset and give our support based on it.
she wrong bad and I hope we are more consistent with the deserving critique. It's a mindset seen everyday in schools. Of which children deserve support and who doesnt. Same in juvenile justice. As I was told a few times, the girls at Armadale deserved it. they were bad
same with Noel Chambers and George Williams. Some did not support their case because they were locked up for allegedly committing a violent offence. I am witnessing it now being a part of a group working to get more prisoners incarcerated for decades without trial released.
a lawyer who at first was very interested in helping said they would do so only in cases where:
1) the alleged crime the individual was ACCUSED of (20-40 years ago) was nonviolent
2) if they were "very old"
3) if they didnt give problems while in prison

justice on condition
it's the same mindset folks refusing to speak out against police killings have. it's why people respond with "but were they innocent?" when faced with the numbers. it's why police use the terms "engaged in shootout" "alleged criminal" in their reports when they kill someone.
one of the messages this mindset tells us to internalize is:

withhold your reactions, emotions, calls for justice, offers of support until you can verify that the victim is indeed a perfect victim worthy/deserving of support.

and that is dangerous. disrupt & reject this mindset
