I have sat on the sidelines while being used as a ping-pong ball between two people who have a beef that predates the @irandealpodcast podcast and will last long beyond it. 1/x
I don’t get involved in these spats because it is not worth my time or stress, in a time that is stressful enough for all of us. No longer. 2/x
I was interviewed for a longer series that focused on the #irandeal history through the eyes of people who were involved. In that context, I told my story - as a junior professional - using the pronoun “we” throughout. No one assumed I was acting alone, nor could I have been. 3/x
Criticism of a podcast is for the makers of the podcast, not me. Anyone who deals with the media, as we know @TheGoodISIS does, knows that the interviewee relinquishes control of their words as soon as they utter them. 4/x
That said, I think @ArmsControlWonk treated me respectfully and usefully put the work in the context of a decades-long challenge that we continue to struggle with today. 5/x
I built a foundation for my career in my time at ISIS and remain proud of the work we did and the education I got from David and others. I don't deserve the disrespect I've received. I have always treated David with respect and would have been happy to talk to him directly. 6/x
I do not need a “protector,” and never asked @ArmsControlWonk to play that role. I appreciate his defense of me, but it is as much a defense of his professional integrity as it is of my reputation. 7/x
I don’t/won’t block @TheGoodISIS because I still want to see what they produce even when I don’t agree with all their conclusions, especially their strong opposition to the JCPOA. 8/x
I value @ArmsControlWonk for the work that @JamesMartinCNS does and the way that they have both built on the nascent capabilities we demonstrated in opensource geospatial analysis AND can tell stories in ways that engage a broader public. 9/x
I see the success of my mentees to be reflections of my success, part of my core job within this community, and I celebrate them. I am disappointed I was not afforded the same. 10/x
And, not for nothing, my resume needs no padding. It speaks for itself. /fin
