High drama here earlier. Writing on the couch, heard a scrabbling behind me. After some cautious investigation - pulled out couch, poked broom handle underneath - discovered a live rat that Fred must have brought in last night and then lost. Spent a fraught half hour trying to
'encourage' it to exit through the door and make its way up the hall to the front door and out to freedom, bit it mustn't have understood my panicked yells/increasingly frantic thrusting of the broom, and it continued to ramble merrily around the room. Eventually phoned neighbour
Kellie who arrived with a litter picker as her weapon of choice, and the two of us spent the next half hour trying to 'encourage' the visitor to leave, but again it mustn't have understood out wild screams anytime it rambled in either of our directions. When we were nearing the
end of our respective tethers, and Kellie was suggesting going to Woodies for a trap, we finally cornered it for long enough for Kellie to grab it with the litter picker and make a dash for the front door with me bringing up the rear and both of us screaming wildly as we went.
She succeeded in reaching the door and flinging it out. We slammed the door and collapsed in shock and relief. Henceforth:
1. Kellie, aka @Kel024, is my hero, and
2. Fred may exit through the cat flap but must return via me so I can make sure he's unarmed.
The End. #phew
