It’s 1 year to the day of being stopped by Australian Border Force, detained for 5 days, and deported with a 3 year ban. I’m in my feelings.
Alright so story time. I flew out on 12/10/19 to Melbourne, Australia (not knowing about Covid yet, obviously;) to begin a work tour in that part of the world.
Something awful happened to me in the fall of 2019, and this trip was going to be my fresh start. Or so I thought.
Upon landing/going through customs, I was apprehended by Australian Border Force. I still don’t know why. I don’t know if they already had been tipped off to who I am, and that I was coming, or what. I don’t know what lists exist of whom. Especially after ad site raids.
When I tell you the effects of FOSTA/SESTA have been global and far-reaching, this story is an example of that. I’ve heard of other FSSWers being turned away at borders.
Selling sex is legal in Australia. But you can’t come in on work visa for that. 🙃 So you have to lie. There’s also a yearlong “Working Holiday Visa” option in Australia, but the age limit for that is 30. 🙃
Notice I said selling sex is legal in Australia. That doesn’t mean decriminalized. That means “regulated by the state.” This matters because in an ideal world, selling sex in a place where selling sex is legal, there should be no state interference for that.
I was pulled aside, my belongings searched in a separate room, and interrogated by ABF officers. Another prominent SW (whose IG just got deleted again,) was waiting with her partner outside to pick me up. I never met them.
I was allowed to keep my phone. That and other things made the experience better and easier than my time in American jails. That’s how I have these photos. My lips were pursed lol I was so pissed:
More photos from the immigration detention center I was held at:
I’m friends with a pro-Domme who also was detained here, so I actually knew what to expect and was prepared. It’s still fucked, though. Thanks to someone detained in the 1990s fighting Australia in court, what happened to me and my friend is now called a “turn around.”
They used to detain people for immigration/visa/travel reasons for YEARS, I was told. Now if they decide at the border that you’re not allowed in (what happened to me,) they legally must send you out within 5 days, on their dime, if you don’t have the money.
Australia sent me “home,” but only to the nearest port city. I was in Minneapolis. They sent me to Los Angeles. That’s almost 2000 miles. These were my final photos in Australia. That cell is in the Melbourne airport.
This was traumatic for several reasons. 1. You already have to be on-guard and to a certain degree, paranoid, to do FSSW. This made that so much worse.
2. My IG got deleted at 18.5k several days later, no explanation
3. You didn’t hear about it here til now was sh@dowbanned
I was escorted through the airport with that ugly yellow vest on both on my way to the detention center, and on my way through the airport (they also sat next to me til I literally boarded my flight & didn’t return my passport until mid-flight.) I’m now banned for 3 years.
December 17th, International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers is right around the corner. Are you making sure the sex workers in your life are good?
Big thank you to @TheBellaBathory and @ashleymadness1 for rescuing me from LAX and providing me safe haven for a week in Barbie Dreamhouse. I miss you, I love you, I love us. 💓💞💖💘
