This whole attitude of the northern & “blue” states being inherently superior to the south is steeped in anti-Blackness & ignorance. I’ve lived in both. Racism was everywhere & a lot of folk who call themselves liberal & progressive are just engaged in other flavors of oppression
NY & CA have some of the most violent police departments in the country & their governments are actively oppressing minorities & poor people. Folks think that just b/c they have enclaves of wealthy white ppl who vote Dem it means they’re progressive. “Progressive” is relative
Elitist white ppl in “blue states” aren’t different in attitude & behavior from white ppl in south who they love to cast as uniquely backwards. They do this to avoid confronting the reality of structural whiteness. But as soon as nonwhite ppl enter their spaces the truth is shown
The most amazing thing to me was traveling to places w/ very small or nonexistent Black populations & having ppl ask me about racism in the south while all around us the domestic labor was being performed by nonwhite descendants of those who’d been displaced from that land.
