Yesterday I told you to #ReadTheReport. I challenged ALL of you to reflect on what it meant to you.

For me, three words:
Rage. Disappointment. Failure.
Rage: How many times did you notice the committee concluded there was a lack of engaged leadership? For 15 months I’ve asked you to be Leaders who know their Soldiers and establish a positive culture in cohesive teams that are fit, disciplined, and well-trained.
Display competencies
Influence top performance
Listen and understand your squad
Show compassion and empathy
Show a positive future
Find commonalities among members
Use them to build the team
ID risks and stressors
Connect them to resources

Things you CAN control.
Disappointment: NCOs should BE the standard-bearers in every organization. We SET the standard, then ENFORCE the standard. That’s the legacy of the NCO Corps - and it’s clear time and time again, when NCOs were faced with the chance to act...we didn’t.
Failure: I have failed to communicate clearly the intent behind This Is My Squad. It’s more than prescriptive, check the block training. I visit barracks to ensure our Soldiers have a safe, well-maintained home you WANT to be in.
I call families because I believe the first time we talk to a spouse, parent, or sibling shouldn’t be in an emergency. If we could prevent just ONE Soldier from committing suicide because their family knew how to contact a leader, it’s worth calling every family in the Army.
I apologize to EVERY woman who told the committee they suffered in silence because they didn’t trust Leaders to do the right thing. I apologize to those women with the courage to report, only to be retaliated against or ostracized.
These problems exist in society, so why is this a crisis to the Army? Because we shouldn't just reflect society, we should be better, our values demand it.

When this happens in MY Squad, in MY Army? Yeah, that's crisis.
As the PFTF continues to develop plans to implement recommendations by the committee, we want your input. We need solutions that all of us can enact where we are.

Policy is a tool, I need Leaders ready to use it to put our People First.
