THREAD: Whiteness and Progressives.
Domination-based masculinity, which trains boys into modeling certainty or they lose status, intermingles with white ideas about purity/perfection, including progressive purity tests, which “frees" some whites on the left to judge others. /1

This does NOT apply to all white progressives. If this isn't you, then you know it. But for many women and BIPOC voters the resulting strident political binary is anti-listening, anti-collaborative and anti-coalition building. /2

Whiteness has always included a huge piece on perfectionism/conformity; that there is a right way to do our public facing (including political) selves and "I'm doing it exactly right." Perfectionism is self serving; a ticket to dominate others who are "lower" on the hierarchy. /3

Some whites on the left refuse to self reflect about that purity/perfection certainty piece in whiteness and how it is ultimately dominance culture operating as moral certitude, to circumvent deep-seated white anxiety about maintaining their status at the top of the hierarchy. /4

How do some call themselves progressives AND attack Black Democratic voters for their choices? The domination culture performance of white perfection/purity is at the root. Without self-reflection it's a recipe for more dominance, veiled in any given ideology, right or left. /5

Belief in white racial purity is the poison that runs through white nationalism and fascism. But ideas about purity resonate for all white folks due to its wider ranging presence in America's performance of whiteness as a culture of conformity, perfectionism and dominance. /6

We can arrive at a collaborative, coalition building process with others across race, gender and sexual identity, national origin. But for white folks, that can only be achieved when we self-reflect about the purity/perfectionist dominance-based thinking baked into whiteness. /7
