y’all wanna hear about how i quit my first “adult job” at a racist ass transphobic ass law firm in middle of nowhere kansas?
so i grew up with the basics until i was like 12. then we were like poor poor. like poor poor poor poor. so when i turned 16 i vowed to never expose myself to those conditions again. i worked ALL throughout high school. sometimes having one or two jobs to pay for stuff.
i was working at a hotel at the time and saw an indeed posting for a law firm in atchison KS (white/rural/ 10,000 people). so i sat in the back office and wrote an amazing cover letter and resume and printed them off. i took them to their office the first thing next morning.
i should’ve known something was up with them because less than 20 minutes later they called me for an interview a few days later. i went. it was like an hour and a half of them prodding me to see if i was worthy. i only got it because i told him i was a kelly—
my family (the kelley’s*) has a really good name in atchison but he only knew a distant cousin so i played off of that and went from there. IN THE DAMN INTERVIEW- he insinuated i wouldn’t last long and was questioning my age and experience. BEFORE I EVEN CLOCKED IN BRO.
i started and everything was chill for the first few days. then i started noticing how EVIL these white girls were! they would dead ass not tell me something and then lie and say they did. we all did the same paralegal courses online at a community college—
they made a HELLA dumb ass transphobic ass post in our class forum about a new “disney princess” coming out who would be “a trans.” i politely corrected them and said that disney had not announced that and that everyone deserved due representation.
so anyways. i would go to work, get bullied, go home and cry. i won’t say i wasn’t strong but i’ve always been aware of how people interpret black women and i have always been terrified of losing a job and becoming houseless so i just sat by like a megar mouse.
i made a series of posts on facebook calling out our local newspaper for biased language. and i know for a fact she took this to our boss and played the crying white woman trope. less than two days and they called me in the office and said they were letting me go....
oh but bitch. i had been waiting on the right moment to quit but they beat me to it. but i say i quit because the drag after was. 😗🤌🏾. immaculate. i sent ALL of them this email.
PT 2/ i swear this story gets better DO NOT quit y’all. 😭💯
