distinctly remember growing up with a neeky interest in politics, all this constant handwringing from commentators about young people being apathetic, and what should be done about this, then 2015-2019 happened and suddenly realising this was totally insincere bollocks
a whole pundit class absolutely aghast that people other than themselves were able to take any interest in Their interest, slinging around derisive nonsense about 'populism', treating young people as interlopers, and this palpable glee that people are turning away once again
enthusiasm is anathema to neoliberal politics. it thrives off as many people as possible being disenfranchised and alienated by the political process, so the only people who retain an involvement are the propertied classes who diligently turn out to protect their own interests
all this salivating over 'the adults being back in charge' and 'getting Our party back' now that there's been a reset to wilfully uninspiring, insipid managerialism is just the most shameless dogshit
