Huge win for #Morocco in gaining US recognition of its sovereignty over W. Sahara. I doubt Rabat would have normalized for anything less. It will be interesting to see the pace of this deal's implementation. Full speed ahead, like UAE/Bahrain, or a more gradual progression? https://twitter.com/BarakRavid/status/1337067478694965255
Morocco and #Israel have strong cultural ties, a history of cooperation, and business relations. But Morocco also has vocal pro-Palestinian faction & the issue is still very emotive amongst the public. Winning W. Sahara recognition is a huge sweetener that will help sell the deal
Acc. to Reuters: Morocco to establish full diplomatic relations, resume official contacts with Israel, grant overflights and also direct flights to and from Israel for all Israelis. Rabat/Tel Aviv liaison offices to reopen, w/ intent to open embassies https://www.reuters.com/article/israel-usa-morocco-idUSKBN28K2CN
This is great news for Morocco and for regional peace, but sustained US engagement is key to ensuring this deal doesn't fizzle out, as @ordefk and I noted in @TheNatlInterest . Morocco and Israel already have precedent for backtracking on relations. https://nationalinterest.org/blog/middle-east-watch/biden-must-act-make-sure-sudan-israel-peace-lasts-172420
