okay 70 albums that are great for a new person to get into HH. I am going to EXPLAIN these albums so bare with me(thread btw)
also there are plenty of albums i could've chosen this wasn't easy and i did my best to hit as many areas as possible and just new people a good gauge of how amazing this genre is and how diverse it is.
Illmatic and TPAB: these are obvious, to many some of the best Hip Hop albums oat and pretty much it's peak. Illmatic is arguably the most important Hip Hop album ever with how influential it is and TPAB is a perfect way to show someone how complex a HH album can be.
Straight Outta Compton-Paid in Full: 80s classics that show Hip Hop's evolution to more complex rapping and delve way more into political topics such as Police brutality.
TES-License to Ill: pretty much just white Hip Hop artists put together but it shows Em's peak and what happens when Hip Hop is mixed with Rock.
All Eyez on Me-Death Certificate: West Coast classics, shows Pac, Cube, Dre, and Snoop at their peak. We have one of the best Concious HH albums oat, G-Funk albums, and Hardcore Gangsta Rap before it started to die down.
RTD-LS: Classic NY style Boom Bap, not much to else to say just show RZA's prime production and Biggie's only album before death
TCD-F&L: a bit of a mix between underground HH classics and a more laid back style of rap. Featuring heavy soul/jazz samples, unique lyricism, and just a general alternative take in HH.
Undun-LLA: Shows what the 2010s has to offer. Albums like Undun, GKMC, FHD, 1999, TITS, CFM, and 4eva show a more modern take on classic HH styles while FB, BTI, CB, LLA show what HH could be when experimented with Neo-Soul Gospel etc.
GRODT-Pinata: Shows the different types of Mafioso, Gangsta, and Coke rap all with some of the greatest producers of all time backing these very skilled rappers.
Donuts-Modal Soul: Instrumental albums that have influenced the popular lofi movement we are currently seeing. Shows how producers can hold their own and should be seen and respected as artists just like rappers.
MV-AMHAC: Experimental HH, shows HH taking in very strange places and pushing certain aspects to their limits. Important to show how much HH can be experimented with.
Take Care-808s: Pop Rap, heavy use of melodies and much simpler lyrics and focusing more on atmosphere and world building and songwriting than it is making bars. Shows Drake Cudi and (arguably) Kanye in their prime as well as influential albums that shaped the 2010s
Rodeo-Finally Rich: Trap and Drill. Showing the best the sub-genres can offer in both new and old school and many of these artists in their primes. Also shows very influential albums that showcase flow, adlib, and production that shapes mainstream 2010s rap.
TC3-Aquemini: Southern Rap, while Trap is also this wanted to showcase non-trap southern artists that are influential but unique and show that the South has just as much to offer as the rest of the Country
Eve-Miseducation: Always important to showcase the ladies. Female rappers are incredibly under appreciated and I feel showing newer people of the genre classic/best these women have to offer will really change that. Their styles range from Pop Rap to Concious but(1/2)
show us a perspective that we don't get to see very often.
HMs: every other Kanye album, couple of UK albums like Psychodrama, Care For Me, TA1300, GBGR, The Blueprint, Stillmatic, Acid Rap, Wolf, Things Fall Apart, 4:44, WGIFH, Faces, Oxymoron, 36C Dirty Edition, Nothing Was The Same, ATLiens, The Diary, It's Dark and Hell is Hot,
2001, DS2, Astroworld, SS3, SMF, Carti ST, Blackstar, Cold Vein, TST, Daytona, MOTM2, Mmm...Food, Under Pressure, Speakerboxx/The Love Below, Thug Motivation 101, Without Warning, T&Y, The Cool, Funcrusher Plus, all RTJs, and prolly many more
