For all the bedwetting, ”the sky is falling” because there will be no trade deal with the EU, I submit my anecdotal evidence that the U.K. had much more choice for food and goods BEFORE they joined then after. This is wartime shopping basket jigsaw puzzle. Hardly barren.
And here is one from the 1950s. Again, hardly lacking for choices.
And the last decade before being “saved” by the EU, 1960s.
The U.K. got into deep shit because of the power that the unions were able to wield over the parliamentary system here, not because there wasn’t enough food to buy. Go read a book or three about that period if you disagree. Or so blokes like @toastofworcesta who was in a union
Also, the EU project (much like the “green” project today) was about altering the entire economic model of the country, which lead to massive profits and political power for its backers instead of “helping” the citizens. In fact, the middle class paid through the nose to be in.
One day, historians will look back at the last four and a half years and wonder why the media, academia and urban elitists were so united in trying to prevent the result of the referendum (followed by two GE’s endorsing Brexit). They’ll also wonder why they backed an antisemite.
