1/3 Restricting CHO during training has been a common practice for decades. Please don’t be mislead by those claiming it ⬆️ mRNA expression of PGC1α and “therefore” mitochondrial biogenesis. From a mRNA expression to protein synthesis to biological action there’s a huge journey..
2/3 I always give this example: if you are exposed to severe hypoxia for 2h, the mRNA expression of HIF-1α will ⬆️ significantly but I guarantee you that you won’t ⬆️ angiogenesis or erythropoiesis...This study for example shows that even 30min of severe hypoxia ⬆️ HIF-1α
3/3 I’ve seen too many athletic careers jeopardized and even ruined by these CHO restrictions “claims” to ⬆️ mitochondrial biogenesis. If you’re a coach, nutritionist or athlete, please don’t be misled. The best way to ⬆️ mitochondrial biogenesis is by training not by ⬇️ CHO
