I myself haven't asked anybody to debate me. Sometimes people's basic senses of what debate even is are so different there's no point. I think of someone set to engage in a 1-on-1 gymnastics competition and the other person comes out with a banjo.

That person does some mean licks and their fans go wild. The gymnast's fans love his moves, only for the banjoist to retort intensely with more strumming. At the end, they finish up with a grand virtuoso plunking finale and walk off with a sense of victory.

I genuinely see no purpose in that, and it's what would happen if I "debated" Kendi, Hannah-Jones, etc. Basic assumptions would make meaningful communication all but impossible.
