In classic Olóyè fashion, I'm about to make enemies on both sides of the Kiki and Oge conversation.

I have thought about not talking about it at all but that's all I'm on twitter to do. Talk about stuff.

If I can't do that, having a twitter account is pointless.

So here...
First things first, always take credit for your own part of the work. Do it yourself.

A lot of people say, "oh, I don't really care about the accolades, I don't really care about the money." But only because they probably thought no accolades or money will come out of it.
Only a few people will ever do a thing "just to help." We do care about getting recognition for our work. We are humans afterall. So if you're still engaging in self deceit and trying to convince yourself that you don't care about that stuff, don't start crying about it when
you get none of that stuff.

Actively take credit for your work, especially if you're a journalist where you're only as good as your last exclusive.

If you really don't care about the accolade or the money, you wouldn't be on twitter later sewing thread.
If you do care about it, then don't just sit back and play "I'm just trying to help." Wherever your work is mentioned, insert yourself into the conversation, it is your right to do that.

It is not Kiki Mordi's job to do it for you. She would if she had some sense and was a
decent human being but most people only care about themselves. So, care about yourself.

Take your own credit! Hype yourself! When your work is invited to award shows, show up whether you're invited or not. It is your work.

Also this seems like BBC's fault more than it is
Kiki Mordi's fault.

BBC probably bought the exclusive rights to the documentary. You were paid for what you did. If BBC decides that Kiki Mordi is going to be their poster child because of he back story; the best you can do is scheme to ensure you're on the podium with her.
Women largely ignore workplace politics because they believe it's about competence and they don't want to be in anybody's face because most women hate confrontation.

What that kind of attitude is going to do is make you build resentment when you see other people
progressing and you're wondering someone why nobody is seeing you put the blood, sweat and tears you put in. It's because most women ignore office politics.

You shouldn't! Humans are social so scheme and make sure you have someone speaking up for you when the decisions are made
in your absence.

Make sure your editor or whatever they call them in television likes you. That way when the poster girl decision is being made. Someone mentions your name and that way, you get to get the recognition for your blood, sweat and tears.

Again, not Nkiruka's fault.
But you're the one with the real talent, which means if you take my advice now, there'll be other big things for you that you get to put your face on. You may have been denied of the opportunity to be on the poster now but your talent will help you get there again.
You can't say the same for Kiki.

Every award, every grant, every accolade is going to create a hole of feeling of inadequacy. You know when you're a fraud. You can deceive other people but you cannot deceive yourself. You know when you don't deserve what you're getting because
you understand there's no talent hidden inside you to keep up that 15 seconds of fame. Every award is going to remind you of your own fraud, every accolade will tell you that you really couldn't pull this off on your own. And that creates a giant hole of inadequacy which
you'll have to fill with something.

You may not have the talent to come up with a documentary on your own but at least, you can be more flagrant, you can post more stupid shit on twitter and fill up your ego with the thousands of minions coming to gas you up.
You can do that!

That doesn't require talent. Look at me, I'm doing it, zero talent required.

So just keep doing that and maybe you'll feel better or if you don't, you can throw some grant money in the air and do the Beyonce one leg dance.

Good luck.
Olóyè definitely not writing to you from the #CouncilofChiefs.

In fact the elders strongly adviced against this thread.
