Some churches are currently meeting in person and also steaming their services for those who prefer to stay home. A doctor I know and love told me last night that she can’t even watch those services online because it makes her so angry to see people going to church.
She’s not on the front lines, but she’s still advising patients with covid on a regular basis. Her sister, a nurse, is witnessing covid deaths every week.
Yesterday we had more than 3,000 covid deaths in the USA. Many hospitals are at or near capacity. Many healthcare workers are exhausted.
Remember how our pastors use to warn us about avoiding even the appearance of evil? To healthcare professionals, your in-person church service, even with precautions, has the appearance of evil.
It does not communicate care for doctors and nurses. Even if your gathering doesn’t seem to be spreading anything, it is sending a message about what you value: it looks like you care more about your right to worship in the way you prefer than you care about your community.
Note: this applies to sharing photos of family gatherings online, too.
This, for instance? Not the powerful witness they think it is. There was a time when Christians were known for building hospitals, not trying to fill them. https://twitter.com/cwwhite212/status/1337018338812325889

This is not me trying to score points. This is me begging us to think about what our actions communicate. How are we loving healthcare wrks who can’t attend church bc they’re regularly exposed to the virus & can’t watch bc it’s disturbing to see the disregard fortheir sacrifices?
