How will Brexit affect future travels within Europe?

A thread ⤵️

#TravelThursday
From the 1st January 2021 there will be some changes in how we can travel around the EU.

1️⃣If you have a British passport, you will need to have at least six months left on your passport and your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years to be valid.
2️⃣ The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will not be valid from 1 January 2021.
3️⃣ If you plan to drive in Europe, you may need an International Driving Permit for the areas you plan to drive in.

If you are driving your own car in Europe, you may need to obtain and carry a physical Green Card for your UK car insurance to be valid in the EU.
4️⃣ Rules around mobile data roaming are changing meaning you may face charges when using your phone abroad, including for making calls, sending messages or using the internet.

Check with your mobile phone provider about their data roaming policy.
5️⃣ If you are travelling with a pet, your pet passport will no longer be valid. If you wish to take your pet abroad you will need to speak to your vet at least four months before you travel.

For more information visit http://gov.uk .
6️⃣ You will not be able to take meat, milk or products containing them into EU countries from 1 January 2021.

There are some exceptions, for example certain amounts of powdered infant milk, infant food, or pet food required for medical reasons.
7️⃣ Taking plants and plant products into EU countries:
You’ll need a certificate to take certain plants and plant products into EU countries from 1 January 2021.

Check the rules about taking plants and plant products into the EU on the European Commission website.
8️⃣ At border control, you may need to:

•show a return or onward ticket
•show you have enough money for your stay
•use separate lanes from EU, EEA and Swiss citizens when queueing
9️⃣ Duty Free Shopping 🛍

Passengers from Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) travelling to EU countries can take advantage of duty-free shopping from January 2021.
Current duty-free limits on tobacco and alcohol, which apply only to non-EU countries at the moment, will also increase in the new year.

But there'll no longer be tax-free airport sales of goods like electronics and clothing. 😔
‼️ Things you may need to do before you go include:

•check your passport
•get travel insurance that covers your healthcare
•check you have the right driving documents
•organise pet travel - contact your vet at least 4 months before you go
There will be a lot more changes and clarity in the new year!
