Tipping point in York Region?
Not at all.
York is a case study in the unjustified panic fuelled by unscrupulous hospital execs and clickbait-hungry media.

Here are "cases" (positive PCR test results) and deaths with or from covid-19 in York.
York has reported 326 deaths with/from covid, in a population of over 1.1 MILLION - or 0.03% of the region's population.
69% of deaths over 80 years of age (Cdn avg. for all causes is 51%).

The fraudulent cycle of panic > more testing > more positive results > more panic continues.
York has been on a testing bender for some time, particularly since the end of summer.

So who said York was at a tipping point?
The CEOs of Mackenzie Health, Markham Stouffville Hospital, and Southlake Regional Health Centre.
Are they lying?
Or do they simply not understand numbers and comparative risk?

How's this for comparison?
There are 1,335 hospital beds in York.
How many are occupied by patients hospitalized due to or just with covid-19?
Drum roll, please...
66.
Yes, 66.
Including 7 in ICU.

Let's take a closer look at those hospitals.
Markham Souffville Hospital:
309 beds + $3,664,700 from province to add 15 hospital beds & 5 critical care beds = 329 beds.
19 in hospital *with* covid (not necessarily because of covid).

Southlake Hospital:
500 beds.

Indeed, Southlake is under so much pressure from covid that this "tipping point" has led them to lay off nurses.
Mackenzie Health:
506 beds.
31 in hospital *with* covid (not necessarily because of covid), including 10 in ICU.

Provincially, we still haven't seen any data suggesting that hospitals in Ontario are under any more pressure than in the annual flu season.
This year seems rather normal. This is not an issue of people flooding the hospitals.

Seasonality must be considered as well.

Don't believe everything you hear in the news. Often, it's not necessarily factually incorrect but rather full of spin meant to incite an emotional reaction in you.
York's "tipping point" story is but one example.
