Refugees in 🇾đŸ‡Ș,largely from Muslim-majority countries, with a mental disorder much less likely to attempt suicide than 🇾đŸ‡Ș-born individuals with a mental disorder. One is tempted to invoke Durkheim here & posit the role of culture, specifically differing levels of individualism. https://twitter.com/DrAPitman/status/1336364757046206465
Its too simplistic to say: higher levels of individualism results in more suicides & lower levels of individualism results in less suicides. But its certainly a factor you couldn't & shouldn't discount. A sense of belonging is a powerful protective factor

The decline in religious faith & observance, in the West generally, doesn't really help in that regard. Screen-shots taken from Robert Putnam’s latest book.
If religious belief/observance was a drug or a form of therapy there would be a clamour for it to be prescribed en masse & for the government to invest in it.
Humans are social animals & religion is one of the most powerful forms of social glue that we have ever created. Good luck trying to find a form of social glue that works anywhere near as well.
