Mayor’s election seems to support this view. https://reformpoliticaladvertising.org/2020/11/05/a-big-thank-you-to-the-conservative-party-or-4-matthew-parker-street/

Our campaign has made significant progress over the last year including the ASA stating for the first time in its annual report that “political advertising must be regulated” and the House of Lords
Democracy and Digital Technology Committee (that we gave evidence to) recommending all the points we’ve been advocating. Included in the recommendations was a “code of practice for political advertising, along with appropriate sanctions, that restricts fundamentally inaccurate
significant reform to the outdated rules for political advertising.

A very big thank you to everyone that has supported our campaign to date. We are politically neutral, not for profit and run by unpaid volunteers. If you’d be interested in volunteering some time to help
local elections and London Mayoral election are we are sure going to demonstrate the urgent need for change further.
