Thread on power of #Community

1. The people of #Kilsyth should be really proud of themselves on this one.

Petitions, rallies, meetings, calls, emails!

The community mobilisation was relentless and well planned.

A victory to the foot soldiers in spite of fierce opposition.
2. Kilsyth doesn't have parking problems. Issue is dwindling footfall. Street with a rich social/economic history. A mining town. Steeped in pride. The street is important for businesses and those it serves. But more than that, it's a focal point for people and action.
3. The victory owes a lot to community council allies, key elected representatives and businesses for using their position and profile in the town to great effect. However, the legacy is one of successful community action. A town united around a cause and prepared to speak up!
4. Being told you 'can't' or having your aspirations stymied has the corrosive effect of creating apathy. A tangible result to a series of actions is emboldening for people and communities. Lesson? Stick together. Ask question, what can we do collectively to achieve our goals?
5. Most important of all. Never let anyone or any organisation limit what you can achieve for your community.

Prepare. Be clever. Be bold. Smash the glass ceiling!

Organise. So, if they come calling again to strip key community assets. You will be ready ✊

Well done all 🙂👏
