Thread on Naziphobia - the boomer and their Gen X/Y offspring's deeply-ingrained fear of Nazis.

From birth they were taught Nazis were bad, Nazis were right wing, therefore right wingers are bad.

This is also the root cause of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

So everything the Nazis disliked must be good, and everything they liked must be bad.

Jews, gays and gypsies = good.

Nationalism, flags, rallies, salutes = bad.

This all comes from teaching kids about death camps and Anne Frank, and why it's so hard to get through to leftists.
Even the obviously false leftist meme about immigrants not taking jobs comes from "teaching future generations how not to repeat the horrors of the Third Reich".

So how do we undo this?

Some people will figure out the truth for themselves, but most cannot.
They have a visceral reaction to right wing ideas and people with right wing views.

TDS/Antifa/Never Trump etc are all motivated by Naziphobia and this cannot be confronted head on.

You have to slowly expose them to opposing views.

Immigration is a good starting point.
Even for decades after WW2 the left and the unions knew immigrants took jobs, but as the boomers grew up and took power this changed.

But it's the easiest thing to prove, and even today's pro-mass immigration leftists admit it - they just claim native populations deserve it.
But your aim should not be to turn people into right wingers, but simply to weaken their Naziphobia, and hopefully let their own brain do the rest.

Nationalism is another - boomers fear nationalism because they believe it causes wars, and wars are bad.

Merkel is like this.
But nationalism also creates unity within a country and brings people together, which is again easy to prove.

Modern leftists can see that societal division is bad, and they too long for belonging and the meaning this creates. This is why many have turned to identity politics.
There are many more.

You too can fight Naziphobia.
