My heritage.... for this #TBT I have 1 more historical piece from my ancestry. Allow me to introduce you to the extraordinary tale of ‘Christina Ustings’ my 10th great grandmother. Widowed at 22 she disguised herself as a man to get to Cape Town which was off limits (cntd)
limits to most civilians at the time...her 2nd husband survived a knifing on their wedding day only to be killed by a lion in 1671. Legend has it she tracked down the beast on the same day and took revenge by hunting it...a third husband was killed by local tribesman (cntd)
and a 4th by an elephant (So clearly I have a few husbands left in me)
She petitioned the governor for land and was given ‘Steenberg Farm’ as the first land owner in the Cape...she was well known for going to the port when ships came to sell her farm wares (cntd)
