Confession: I’ve been looking through the #Sears Wishbook from the early/mid 80’s out of a sense of nostalgia and to be honest, a way of coping with the world (without eating all the cake). I know lots of you are my age-ish. I invite you to walk through my 1980s with me... 1/8
First up: Christmas grade 1. Teddy Ruxpin. I loved this bear, even after my babysitter put a Twisted Sister tape in him (yes his mouth and eyes still moved). 2/8
My (very intelligent) parents had a Christmas morning rule that we had to make toast and coffee for them before we could wake them up. I learned how to make coffee using one of these bad boys. I use a French press and my kids have ADHD, I do not get coffee. 3/8
Stuffing for the Xmas turkey was made with this miracle of small kitchen appliance engineering. My mom still has it, it still works, and she may actually love it more than me. To be fair, she’s known us for almost the same amount of time & this is more useful than me by far 4/8
Christmas 1984 is family legend. The year my parents asked friends all over AB to find me a cabbage patch doll. A friend finally found one and sent it down from Edmonton to Red Deer on the Greyhound. Probably with a security detail (FYI: I don’t remember ever asking for one) 5/8
Mr. Potato Head is here for being the most requested gift. I asked for him every year from Santa. Every single year. I was literally 17yo (yes 17) when he finally appeared under the tree. Because of this he was the best gift ever, I still have him, the kids love him. 6/8
This one is for my brother (not on Twitter, but my nephew is lol). I don’t remember when he got this. But I do remember when it went missing. I secretly took it outside, hopped in the back of my dad’s truck for a drive in the back pasture & promptly dropped it...sorry Scott 7/8
And finally, what would Christmas in the 1980s have been without the floor-tv to watch whatever was on the 3 channels (or 1 channel depending on weather)? Also see: Xmas in the 90s, 2000’s... We still had this tv when I moved to the UK in 2004. Miss ya, big guy 8/8
