/ Indeed true. And in a couple of weeks we will have a repeat for the holidays & add more suffering, death, and economic destruction on top of the current surge. January is setting up to be brutal. 4,000 deaths per day? maybe more. https://twitter.com/edyong209/status/1336883379334213633
/ What can and should be done is hardly worth repeating anymore. But what the heck.

Wear masks in any indoor space other than w/ immediate family in your own home. Avoid all non-essential indoor environments. Just do it!
/ Wear masks in any essential indoor environments, but avoid those where universal mask wearing is not required and enforced. Reduce time in essential indoor environments. Physically distance in these environments. Good hand hygiene. Just do it!
/ Schools/school districts - see https://corsiairquality.wordpress.com/slides/  as well as links in slides at end. Required masks + improved ventilation + improved filtration + three 20 min outdoor mask breaks can get you to almost a 20 x reduction in inhaled dose. See example in slides. Just do it!
/ Employers. Work with your building manager, owners, and facilities staff to increase ventilation as possible, employ higher MERV filters to extent possible in mechanical system (to MERV13 if at all possible, but even MERV11 or 12 is better than lower MERV). Just do It!
/ Use one or more portable HEPA filters w/ appropriate clean air delivery rate, e.g., 300 scfm, in smaller spaces, e.g., < 1,000 sq. ft (small stores, conference rooms, small office suites, etc.). Just do it!
/ Consider properly installed and employed UVGI. De-densify by allowing remote work whenever possible. Stagger work hours. Encourage outdoor activities where possible. Test if possible. Just do it! (if possible).
/ Political leaders. Have courage and do what is right. "Fits and starts" has failed miserably. Starve this virus of its hosts and then stay on top of and manage it, like many countries with leaders and citizenry who did not fail. Stop failing. Lead. Just do it!
/ Those with resources. Do whatever you can to help your fellow citizens who have suffered during this horrific failure. Give to appropriate charities in lieu of holiday gifts. Maintain your gym membership even if you do not use the gym. Just do it!
/ Purchase ample gift cards for local stores now and use after vaccination. Order takeout (a lot). 50 to 100% tips. Whatever else you can do. Help your neighbors. Help your community. Help those not as fortunate. Just do it!
/ There is even more that could have been done to starve this virus of its hosts, and that can still be done to reduce the trail of death, suffering, economic destruction, and the massive physical and mental toll on front line healthcare workers.
/ Many of us are trying to do whatever we can to inform the public, school districts, business owners, health authorities, and policymakers. Most of us are fortunate that we can do this from the comfort of our homes and not in COVID wards or in other high risk occupations.
/ I get that. But that should not take away from a message that is not rocket science. It is simple. Layered risk reduction (LRR) works if a large majority of people do their part. It starts w/ universal masks and distancing. These are a great start. Just do it!
/ With a few more steps it is not that difficult to get to 95% dose reduction (20 x!). But it is almost impossible to get to that without the general public, school districts, employers, health authorities, the media, and political leaders all doing their part. Just do it!
/ Please, just do it! And listen to @linseymarr, @IAQinGWN, @jljcolorado, @ShellyMBoulder, @j_g_allen, @Don_Milton, @kprather88, @Wymelenberg, @CathNoakes, @BhadeliaMD, @HuffmanLabDU, @gcmorr, & many more highly worthy experts that I wish I had time to list. :(
